When is the best time to exercise? First thing in the morning or at night?

With fitness becoming an important part of our lives, especially after the pandemic. The realisation that it was the one thing that kept us relatively sane and gave us a bit of hope that we might get through it.

One of the biggest barriers that still get mentioned by people, and is time or the lack of time. Research shows that we have on average more than five hours of free time per day.

Regardless if you are a seasoned trainer or you are new to training, the one question that gets asked a lot by Fitlab23 members, and the public is, “when is the best time to exercise?”

That question in itself isn’t quite as simple. We all have structured routines that we can’t break out of, even if we wanted to, from work schedules, preparing the kids for school, attending to our homes and other personal commitments, or whether you are an early bird or a night owl.

When it comes to weight loss and building muscle, new research suggests the best time to exercise varies between men and women.

Women who exercised in the morning had a 7% greater loss of fat and larger reduction in blood pressure.

EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM

According to a case study conducted, out of 2 groups of people who trained in the morning V’s in the evening, women had a 7% greater loss of fat and a larger reduction in blood pressure but found they were better off trying to build muscle in the evening.

The group who exercised in the evening, according to USA TODAY, had an increased body strength and a better mood.

For men, evening workouts are beneficial for heart health as well as mood.

SO DOES IT REALLY MATTER WHAT TIME OF THE DAY WE EXERCISE?

Although research suggests the benefits of either training in the morning or at night have no significant bearing, as long as you find a time that best suits your schedule to train, then you are already doing great.

The best time to exercise is whatever time that best suits your busy schedule, so keep up the great work but always remember that regular exercise and a great food intake accompanied with good recovery is all you need.
